Just two hours from Zagreb lies the beautiful source of the Slunjčica River. If you’re up for an active vacation, here’s an idea for another weekend getaway. Its unreal blue-green color and stunning landscape will enchant you and give you a reason to return.
The path to the source of the Slunjčica is a 15-minute drive from the Estate, and you can park across from the Old Town of Slovin or Slunj Fortress, below the Ambara restaurant. You’ll encounter charming, small wooden steps and bridges that perfectly blend into the natural environment along the trail that stretches along the 7.4 km long Slunjčica River. The trail is not demanding and is suitable for all ages. Once you reach the destination, the source of the Slunjčica, you’ll return the same way back to the start of the trail. The total route is 14 km, and it takes about 2.5 hours of easy walking one way.
During your trip, you will enjoy the beautiful colors of untouched nature, and if you wish to rest, you’ll come across wooden benches and gazebos perfect for a picnic. The best times to go are in the autumn or spring, but when it rains, the water level of the Slunjčica River is high, and the trail is not passable to the very source. Dress in layers, wear sturdy footwear, prepare sandwiches, and you’re ready to go!
