Rastoke

Rastoke is an indispensable stopover on the way to the Adriatic Sea, naturally formed into a picturesque miller’s village where the green-blue Slunjčica River cascades over travertine rocks into the Korana River, creating a plethora of waterfalls, rapids, small lakes, and cascades. During the summer months, you can enjoy the Korana River where a city beach is arranged, just about 15 minutes drive from the Estate. For those who prefer active vacations, there’s an opportunity to explore the trail to the source of the Slunjčica River, which is also an ideal spot for fishing. Additionally, popular adventure tourism has developed on the Mrežnica River. If you’re up for a kayaking adventure and exploring the Mrežnica River, the offerings are rich and sure to impress.

The main attraction of Rastoke are the stunning waterfalls that cascade down hundreds of smaller falls, creating a unique spectacle and the melodic sound of falling water. The three largest falls are Buk, Hrvoje, and Vilina Kosa, the latter giving its name to one of our houses. Besides the waterfalls, Rastoke is renowned for its traditional wooden mills that once served for grinding grain. The water’s power was also used for washing clothes long before the invention of the washing machine; laundry in Rastoke was done in baskets beside the mills. These baskets were deep wooden barrels with perforated holes where water tumbled and turned the laundry until it was completely clean. Today, some of these mills have been transformed into small restaurants and souvenir shops, while others still function, preserving the spirit of the past and contributing to the charm of this tourist spot.

For those who love an active holiday, the surroundings offer numerous trails for hiking, Nordic walking, and cycling, allowing you to explore Lika and experience the beauty of nature in a completely new way.
