Plitvice Lakes is the oldest and largest national park in Croatia. It received international recognition on October 26, 1979, when it was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage List. The park is exceptionally known for the richness of its beech, spruce, and fir forests, which are home to numerous wild animals. The park’s area is predominantly covered by dense forests (81%), while a smaller portion consists of grasslands (15%) and areas altered by human influence (3%). Water surfaces make up only a modest 1% of the park’s total area. To encompass the entire catchment of the Plitvice Lakes, the park expanded its boundaries in 1997, now covering an area just under 300 km².
The emerald green network of 16 lakes is breathtaking, interconnected by spectacular waterfalls and cascades. The national park is abundant with lush forests covering most of the park, while a smaller part consists of meadows and areas partially modified by human activity. Only 1% of the park’s area is water, but this water is the core of this wondrous place.
Plitvice Lakes end with the impressive Sastavci waterfalls, where the water begins its journey as the Korana River. This area not only captivates visitors with its beauty but also provides a home to a diverse ecosystem that is unique in the world. Plitvice Lakes will inspire you with its natural beauty and remind you of the importance of preserving such natural jewels for future generations. From our Estate, it is only about a 30-minute drive, and you can choose your excursion program on the official Plitvice Lakes website.
