Barać Caves

The Barać Caves are located near Rakovica, and are approximately a half-hour drive from the Estate. These caves are a true heritage of wondrous forms, stalactites, stalagmites, and underground chambers that astonish every visitor. They are named after a local resident with the surname Barać, who heroically defeated a Turkish giant in combat. Since then, the surname Barać no longer exists in that area. From that time, Barać Caves have become a favorite destination for nature lovers, explorers, and adventurers.

Entering the caves is a journey into a world shaped by nature itself. Stalactites hang like columns, stalagmites rise from the floor to the ceiling, and underground pools and lakes make Barać Caves a true natural wonder. Walking through the caves offers not only a chance to admire the natural beauty but also the opportunity to encounter various species of bats that inhabit this underground world. With expert guidance from experienced guides, you will have the chance to explore hidden corners of the caves and learn about their formation, geology, and ecology.

Barać Caves are closed for visits from November 2024 to April 2025 due to bat hibernation. You can also visit the Speleon Visitor Center, which is open year-round and located just one kilometer from the Barać Cave excursion site. Guided tours of the Upper Barać Cave are organized, lasting about 45-60 minutes, and are available in Croatian, English, German, and Italian.

Hiking trails are available throughout the year, but it is not recommended to use the trails during poor weather conditions. For more information, visit the official website of Barać Caves.
